ND hospital creates special decon room
Healthcare Security Weekly, February 20, 2006
St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND, recently became the first hospital in the state to create specially-designed room for decontamination, according to The Bismarck Tribune.
The room will make it easier for the hospital to deal with any radioactive, chemical, or biological events by being able to treat a large number of patients at once.
The room is lead-lined and the hospital purchased the room with U.S. Homeland Security funds for $25,000.
Hospital officials hope the room will make the facility better prepared to deal with the expected chaos a toxic disaster would bring by allowing security to keep control of mass crowds.
