Study looks at forensic security
Healthcare Security Weekly, February 20, 2006
A group of prison managers, correctional officers, and Washington County Hospital staff members will release the results from a study of forensic patient hospital security procedures next month, reports the Herald-Mail of Hagerstown, MD.
The study comes after a prisoner shot a correctional officer to death last month while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The group formed a committee to study the incident and come up with ways to safely treat forensic patients. They are considering creating a special unit to transport inmates, whether it is to hospitals or court appearances.
The unit would receive specialized training and have more experience transporting prisoners.
The committee is also looking into creating more secure hospital rooms for inmates.
