Study: Acupressure more effective than physical therapy

Rehab Private Practice Alert, February 22, 2006

Researchers in Taiwan found that almost 90% of patients said their lower back pain felt better after acupressure treatment than when they underwent mainstream physical therapy, reported the Daily Mail in London.

The study looked at 129 patients with chronic lower back pain. Researchers found that those who underwent acupressure treatment, an ancient Chinese form of massage, had less disability than those who received physical therapy.

Acupressure patients also saw longer-lasting results than those who received treatments such as spinal manipulation and exercise therapy.

The research was originally published in the British Medical Journal.
