Congressman urges end of cap
Rehab Private Practice Alert, February 15, 2006
U.S. Representative Bob Filner (D-CA) remains hopeful that Congress will repeal the therapy cap in the near future, according to PT Bulletin Online. At the APTA Combined Sections Meeting earlier this month, he said that the Medicare therapy cap should be eliminated.
"It makes no sense to put caps on," said Filner, a cosponsor of the bill H.R. 916 to repeal the therapy cap. "The criteria should be the health needs of the patient, not some arbitrary limit. The cap doesn't even make any sense economically. It will lead to a less healthy population."
He advised those in attendance to become more active in expressing their views to members of Congress, saying, "If two, three, or four PTs go to visit a congressperson, it's rare that the congressperson won't cosponsor legislation."
