Conversation important to infants

Rehab Private Practice Alert, February 8, 2006

A new book written by Susan L. Pike, a pediatric speech-language pathologist, takes a look at recent studies that show how adults verbally interacting with infants and toddlers can affect a child's language development, literacy, and performance in school.

Pike offers parents tips on maintaining high-quality speech and conversation with their infants and toddlers.

The book, titled "Talk Me Into It," uses studies conducted by the International Reading Association, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and others to explore exercises and strategies that can enhance a child's speech development.
