Therapists fight to reverse new state Medicaid policy
Rehab Private Practice Alert, February 8, 2006
Therapists from a rehab facility in Natchez, MS, are fighting to reverse a Medicaid decision that they say could prevent hundreds of children from receiving physical, occupational, and speech therapy, the Natchez Democrat reported.
The state's Medicaid policy no longer approves using certified occupational therapy assistants or licensed physical therapy assistants to treat patients.
Therapists from Key Rehab, the only rehab provider in the area that offers pediatric therapy, argued this policy will make it impossible for the facility to treat all of its current young patients.
The new ruling does not apply to clinics owned by hospitals, though state officials said they are reviewing the policy's fairness, according to the Democrat.
