State claims Ohio SNF did not protect rape victims

LTC Liability Monitor, February 16, 2006

Ohio state inspectors this week found that a North Randall-based nursing home failed to protect two residents who said they were sexually assaulted, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The citations for Suburban Pavilion included failing to provide necessary care in a timely manner, in that nursing home staff supposedly did not bring one of the reported 90-year-old victims to the hospital until 11 hours after she made a rape allegation. The facility was also cited for failing to keep accurate and proper records.

A private investigator and consultant hired by the facility said they did not find evidence of rapes, according to a spokesperson for Suburban owner CommuniCare Health Services. All male staff members who take care of residents have been suspended during the investigation, the Plain Dealer reported.
