Minnesota touts nursing home 'report card'

Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty kicked off a tour of state nursing homes last week to promote the state's new nursing home report card, reported the Preston, MN Republican-Leader. Consumers who log on to http://www.health.state.mn.us/nhreportcard can view ratings for 396 nursing homes in the state, as well as information on hours of direct care, staff turnover rates, proportion of single rooms, and state inspection results.
The site also allows viewers to search homes by certain quality criteria, and by zip code. Though roughly 20 other states have similar programs, Minnesota's is believed to be the most comprehensive and user friendly, the Republican-Leader reported.
