Prosecutors in Illinois SNF suit seek deposition
LTC Liability Monitor, January 26, 2006
Prosecutors for Madison County, IL, requested a pretrial deposition from an 82-year-old man named in a lawsuit against a Collinsville nursing home, the Belleville [IL] News-Democrat reported. The man's leg was amputated two weeks ago, following allegedly neglectful care at Collinsville Care Center, authorities stated. Prosecutors seek a deposition out of concerns that the man's health is in decline.
A 2004 state law allows elder abuse case victims to provide testimony in a written statement or on video, to be read or shown to a jury later, the News-Democrat reported. The State Department of Public Health fined Collinsville $10,000, and three nurses face criminal neglect charges.
