Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, January 18, 2006
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) new Web site includes a redesigned section devoted to the latest news on national provider identifiers (NPIs). The site provides resources that include information about Medicare fee-for-service providers, an NPI fact sheet and timeline, and frequently asked questions.
Individual providers may apply for an NPI
- online
- by filling out a paper NPI application form, available here
- through bulk enumeration by an organization (this process is not yet available)
