OT's focus on children grows business quickly
Rehab Private Practice Alert, January 18, 2006
Choosing a niche made all the difference for Susan Roberts' occupational therapy practice, according to the Arizona Daily Star.
Roberts owns Changes Occupational Therapy in Tucson, AZ, which struggled until she focused the practice specialty to dealing with developmental disabilities and health issues in children and young adults.
What amounted to a part-time job in November 2004 became a practice with 10 employees after she altered her business plan.
Roberts focused on children, expanding her office space to allow for a more child-friendly environment.
She designed the office to look like a house, which she says made children more comfortable than if they were at a typical doctor's office. The office setup allows Roberts to interact with the children in activities such as cooking and arts and crafts.
