Personal alarm pen aids hospital worker
Healthcare Security Weekly, January 9, 2006
A Napa (CA) State Hospital employee used a personal alarm pen to alert security that a patient was attacking him, according to the Napa Valley Register.
Lamont Gavin Burney is facing attempted murder and felony battery charges after punching the staff member in the head and putting him in a choke hold.
Security responded immediately after hearing the alarm and the victim escaped with only minor injuries.
Hospital staff is trained to work with patients with behavior problems, but Burney became aggressive as the victim was supervising him.
