Sentencing delayed for New Jersey nurse

LTC Liability Monitor, January 5, 2006

Sentencing for convicted murderer Charles Cullen was delayed this week because authorities in New Jersey and Pennsylvania have requested more time for their investigations, the Associated Press (AP) reported. Cullen worked at hospitals and nursing homes in five counties in New Jersey and another two in Pennsylvania from 1987 to 2003.

At nearly every job, investigators said, he killed patients and residents by overdosing them with heart medication-29 people in all between the two states. Lawyers for Cullen say he opposed artificial life support and thought of himself as doing a service for people he thought would not survive anyway, according to the AP.
