2006 PAC/PAS grouper update delayed
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, January 3, 2006
The implementation of the 2006 Products of Ambulatory Care (PAC)/Products of Ambulatory Surgery (PAS) grouper will be delayed for about three weeks, according to a posting on the New York State Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers Web site.
The posting, referenced to John T. Franklin of the New York Department of Health, says, "We have arranged to extend the 2005 grouper to accept claims with dates of service beyond December 31, 2005 so the vast majority of claims will be unaffected. Those claims containing new CPT-4 or ICD-9 codes (for PAC) will not group until the 2006 grouper is put up in the third or fourth week of January. At that time they may be submitted or resubmitted for processing. We apologize for this delay and hope that it will not create too many difficulties for providers.
The statement continues, reading, "In addition to the new CPT codes developed by the AMA, we are adding several CPT-4 codes to the PAS grouper for use beginning with 1 January 2006 dates of service. These codes are being added based upon input and suggestions from the provider community,"
