Police catch prisoner who escaped from hospital
Healthcare Security Weekly, December 19, 2005
Jackson (MS) police caught up to Dexter Patrick a day after he escaped custody while undergoing treatment at the Central Mississippi Medical Center, reports the Clarion Ledger.
Rankin County Jail correction officers brought Patrick to the hospital for treatment when he began complaining of stomach pains. While a nurse treated him, Patrick removed his IV and overpowered the nurse.
He ran from the hospital, past the private security guards hired to watch him, and stole a woman's car to escape.
Police caught up to him the next day after an 18-minute high-speed chase. After his capture, Patrick complained of neck and back pains. Police brought him to Kings Draught Hospital, where he was treated but unable to escape this time.
