AMA issues statement on averted Medicare physician payment cut
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, December 20, 2005
The American Medical Association (AMA) has issued a statement voicing the association's appreciation that a planned physician payment cut for 2006 was avoided.
"By freezing payments at 2005 rates, the House of Representatives has stopped a planned 4.4% payment reduction that would force physicians to limit the number of new Medicare patients they take into their practice," the AMA's statement said. "Over 360,000 physicians and patients told Congress that the cuts were unacceptable-and Congress listened."
In the statement, the AMA said it intends to continue to "advocate for a fair physician payment formula based on practice costs, as well as continue to advocate for sound quality improvement initiatives."
