NC launches EHR-sharing pilot
EHR Connection, December 16, 2005
In an intermediate step to EHR migration, North Carolina providers that are leery of transitioning to a full-blown EHR system can participate in ProviderLink, a pilot program to enable record-sharing among 30 local physician practices.
The Moore Regional Hospital Foundation, including FirstHealth of the Carolinas, the Mid-Carolina Physician Organization and ProviderLink, will fund the project with a $78,000 grant.
Providers with access to both a computer and fax machine can participate in the pilot program and can continue to retain paper records if they choose, The Pilot reports. ProviderLink will enable medical record sharing but will not establish a database to store all the records. Providers can share information through fax or e-mail.
