HL7 to release new set of standards
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, December 13, 2005
Health Level Seven (HL7) will release a new set of standards to its members that will provide a "significant contribution to solving the global problem of integrating healthcare information in a way that supports multiple goals, ranging from individual patient care to clinical research to public health," said HL7 Chair Mark Shafarman.
The new standards are known as the "Version 3 Normative Edition 2005," according to an HL7 press release. The standards focus on a variety of areas, including
- semantic interoperability
- universal applications
- model-based specifications
- technology-neutral standards
The Centers for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration have already accepted the standards.
