Report: Overall SNF quality shows minimal gains
LTC Liability Monitor, December 8, 2005
Nursing home deficiencies for SNFs causing actual harm to residents declined from 7% to 6.5% from 2003 to 2004, according to an analysis by HealthGrades of its annual, nationwide SNF ratings. The overall number of deficiencies per nursing home declined 2% from 2003 to 2004. Colorado-based HealthGrades also noted the most frequently cited deficiencies in 2004, which included food sanitation and general resident well-being services.
The incidence of pressure ulcers, resident abuse, and accidents did not decline, with accidents accounting for 25% of all actual harm citations. HealthGrades' Nursing Home Quality Reports include star ratings of nearly every SNF in the United States-15,375 rated in total-at www.healthgrades.com.
