New report shows smaller ASCs have higher net income
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, November 29, 2005
A new report from the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) shows that smaller ambulatory surgery centers (ASC) have a higher net income per case than larger ASCs, according to a press release from the MGMA.
The report also showed that the largest ASCs paid less per case than the smallest ASCs.
The report, Ambulatory Surgery Center Performance Survey: 2005 Report Based on 2004 Data, revealed that smaller ASCs, performing fewer than 3,000 cases per year, reported a mean net income of about $473 per case, while ASCs performing 3,000 or more cases per year reported a mean net income of $341.32 per case in 2004.
However, ASCs performing fewer than 2,000 cases per year paid $228 for surgical and medical supplies, while ASCs performing 5,000 or more cases per year paid only $185 per case.
