Inmate escapes from SC hospital
Healthcare Security Weekly, November 28, 2005
An inmate escaped from Providence Hospital in Columbia, SC, reports The State.
Wyles Johnson went into the bathroom after undergoing a heart-related procedure and escaped through an adjacent door. While in the restroom, Johnson was able to remove his ankle shackles.
Columbia police are still searching for Johnson, who was in jail on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and several other smaller charges.
It took five minutes for a corrections officer and security to realize he was missing and by that time he had left the hospital grounds.
