Web site glitches prevent beneficiaries from getting Part D information
Physician Practice Advisor, November 23, 2005
Enrollment in Medicare's new drug benefit began on November 15 but technical glitches and high demand are overwhelming some avenues to information about the plan.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Web site on the benefit was moving at a crawl on the 15th and 16th as it became overwhelmed by users, reports The Detroit News. More than 1 million people visited the site on November 13, compared to 190,000 on the same day last year, a CMS spokesman said.
The Web site problems forced some agencies in the Detroit area to cancel educational events about the Part D benefit. Some events were also cancelled because of overwhelming demand. Dozens waited hours at a drug benefit event in Beaumont Hospital in southern Michigan, only to be turned away for lack of room.
