OH hospital briefly posts patient info online
Healthcare Security Weekly, November 14, 2005
During the testing of a new computer program at the Ohio State Universiy Medical Center someone accidentally posted the personal information of about 2,800 patients online last week, according to the Chillicothe Gazette.
The information posted affected patients who scheduled or changed appointments on April 19, 2004 and included names, addresses, phone numbers, birth dates, Social Security numbers, and the reason the patients made the appointments.
The hospital took the information down as soon as someone notified them of the mistake, but it is unknown how long the information was posted.
Hospital officials notified all the affected patients of the mistake through letters, and said the hospital will pay everyone for a yearlong credit protection service.
