Security stops attack on hospital employee

Healthcare Security Weekly, November 14, 2005

A fast-acting security guard at the Napa (CA) State Hospital helped stop a patient from assaulting a hospital employee, reports the Napa Valley Register.

A 20-year-old patient attacked a female employee in one of the hospital's counseling units. He carried her into another room and attempted to sexually assault her.

The woman made noises that got the attention of other employees, who alerted security of the attack. Security officers quickly responded to the scene and pulled the man off the employee.

The staff member alerted security through a personal alarm which all staff wear.
