Rehab Private Practice Alert, November 16, 2005
Operation Functional Recovery (OFR)-a humanitarian effort aimed at helping survivors of Hurricane Katrina by bringing together PTs, OTs, and physicians to improve the functional outcomes of Gulf Coast residents-is seeking volunteers. OFR needs volunteer PTs to assist with:
- Determining the equipment needs for skin and wound management, pain management, psychological rehabilitation, and neurological, geriatric, and pediatric rehabilitation
- Creating a task force for emergency preparedness plans
- Developing training procedures for emergency and dignified evacuation for people with disabilities
- Formulating rehabilitation-specific triage and treatment pathways for particular diagnostic categories
- Formulating best practices for post-disaster rehabilitation management
PTs who are interested should contact katrinarehab@gmail.com.
Under the direction of Mark Young, MD, MBA, FACP, chair of the Exchange Committee of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, OFR has enlisted more than 400 volunteers from across the rehabilitation spectrum to meet the functional needs of Katrina survivors.
