Resident's pregnancy ignored, says Illinois CNA
LTC Liability Monitor, November 10, 2005
A certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Bloomingdale, IL, SNF said she told a supervisor about a resident's apparent pregnancy months before the girl was rushed to the hospital, the Chicago Tribune reported. The report is the latest in an ongoing investigation into an alleged sexual assault of a severely disabled resident at Alden Village Health Facility. The SNF was cited back in August for failing to fully investigate the alleged rape.
Illinois state law requires all nursing homes to immediately report any suspected sexual abuse to the State Department of Health. There was no record of the CNA's supervisors ever having reported the allegations to the state, to the facility physician, or to the SNF administrator. A former Alden Village CNA was charged with the resident's rape after a DNA test allegedly matched him to the baby, the Tribune reported.
