JCAHO releases Codman award winners

Quality Improvement Monitor, November 3, 2005

The JCAHO on November 1 named five organizations and the head of the NQF as recipients of the 2005 Ernest Amory Codman Award for  excellence in  outcomes measurement use to achieve healthcare improvements.

The award recipients in the following categories are:

  • Behavioral healthcare: Pikes Peak Mental Health Center, Colorado Springs, CO
  • Disease-specific care: Swedish Medical Center, Seattle, WA
  • Hospital (two recipients): Memorial Health Center, Medford, WI, and Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Rockville, MD
  • Multi-organization: The Greater Cincinnati Patient Safety ICU Collaborative, Cincinnati, OH
  • Individual: Kenneth W. Kizer, MD, MPH, NQF president and chief executive officer

The award is named for the physician regarded in healthcare as the "father of outcomes measurement." Recipients will receive the award November 9 at the JCAHO and Joint Commission Resources' National Conference on Quality and Patient Safety in Chicago.
