Report: More work needed on pay-for-performance principles
Quality Improvement Monitor, November 3, 2005
Despite much that is unknown about pay for performance, stakeholders can advance successful initiatives now under the guidance of one central leadership, according to a National Quality Forum (NQF) report.
The report stems from a March 1-2 NQF conference to begin working toward consensus standards for pay-for-performance systems. The report concluded that a single set of consensus principles could be applied across all healthcare settings, and they should be sensitive to the individual provider needs.
Some measures currently exist for inpatient care, but existing measures are inadequate to appropriately address other areas of care, the report said. For more information, visit http://www.qualityforum.org/docs/p4p/webtxP4PreportPUBLIC10-05-05.pdf.
