Indonesia: More than 50 suspected cases of bird flu
Infection Control Monitor, September 30, 2005
Embattled Indonesian health officials say they are now facing more than 50 suspected cases of bird flu and that the deadly virus has killed five people in the country over the last few months, reports Reuters.
Suspected cases have come from nine provinces across Indonesia, but statistics of the cases are tough to verify as local testing has not always paralleled the results from Hong Kong, which the World Health Organization recognizes.
Indonesian officials announced on Wednesday that they have formed a team to prepare for any bird flu pandemic and to coordinate foreign assistance and funding.
