Premier: New Web tools to help with quality improvement

Quality Improvement Monitor, October 28, 2005

Rapid improvement programs and other tools will help assist hospitals improve care, lower costs, and reduce errors, Premier Inc. said October 6.

The products released by the healthcare consortium include a Web portal with resources as well as access to an online community of experts. The portal contains searchable data that allows hospitals to compare themselves with similarly equipped institutions, enabling a hospital to see what that facility has done in order to improve clinical care in a variety of conditions.

The portal also includes "how-to" change packets, templates, forms, order sets, breaking news alerts, case studies, and clinical research. More than 100 "communities of interest" can be obtained by visiting the site, including 22 clinical communities, 15 operational and financial communities, and 53 communities focused on specific department operations, such as the emergency department and the cardiac catheterization lab.

The rapid improvement program includes many key lessons that Premier obtained through its involvement with the CMS/Premier Hospital Quality Incentive Demonstration, Premier said.
