Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, October 25, 2005
Over the last several weeks, legislators have introduced legislation in both the Senate and the House titled "Ambulatory Surgical Center Medicare Payment Modernization Act of 2005."
The legislation calls for the establishment of a new ambulatory surgery center (ASC) payment system. It also seeks to reform the system the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) uses to determine what procedures Medicare will reimburse ASCs for providing.
On October 7, Representative Wally Herger (R-CA) introduced the legislation, H.R. 4042, to the House of Representatives.
On October 18, Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) introduced the legislation, S. 1884 to the Senate.
