Blue Cross to reimburse physicians for online consultations

EHR Connection, October 24, 2005

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City (BCBSKC) will begin a pilot program in January to reimburse primary care physicians for qualified online patient consulatations.

BCBSKC will use RelayHealth Corporation, a patient-doctor online communication provider, to establish the online consultations, known as webVisit®. A webVisit® is an online patient interview that takes notes on relevant details about nonemergency symptoms and delivers them to the physician.

Members will pay a copay to use the webVisit service, in addition to eScript®, an electronic prescribing service. Physicians who have EHRs in place will be able to streamline charting and workflow through an interoperability toolkit, BCBSKC said in a press release.
