WI therapists using European treatment for scoliosis
Rehab Private Practice Alert, October 5, 2005
Physical therapists at St. Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point, WI, are hoping to become a national center for treating scoliosis by using the European-accepted practice called the Schroth technique, reports the Marshfield (WI) News Herald.
The technique treats scoliosis through postural and breathing exercises that help patients regain back flexibility, restore posture and balance, and reduce the effect gravity has on the spine.
The Schroth method targets patients with idiopathic scoliosis, which is often found in preteens and teenagers. It is used in conjunction with more familiar scoliosis treatments, but therapists in Spain have long found the Schroth method to be the best way to strengthen the spine.
