Pennsylvania SNF to close following wheelchair deaths
LTC Liability Monitor, October 13, 2005
A nursing home near Harrisburg, PA, announced it would close after the state Department of Health downgraded its license to one step from mandatory closure, the Associated Press (AP) reported.
The state had given the Villa Teresa skilled nursing facility until mid-November to remedy concerns about resident neglect and safety. The order followed the deaths of two residents, who left the SNF in their wheelchairs and crashed on a slanted driveway. Villa Teresa gave its 30-day notice this week, and it is required to stay open until all of its residents relocate. The Department of Health did not indicate whether the SNF will be fined, according to the AP.
