Poll: Many patients ignore doc recommendations
Physician Practice Advisor, September 28, 2005
A recent poll by the Wall Street Journal and Harris Interactive found that many patients neglect to carry out treatment prescribed by their doctor. The poll concluded that this might be because patients perceive some doctor recommendations as overtreatment that might contribute to medical problems.
The poll surveyed 2,286 adults online. The study found that
- 32% of those polled say they haven't filled a prescription because they felt it was unnecessary
- 16% didn't get a diagnostic test, for the same reason
- 10% chose not to undergo a surgical procedure, for the same reason
