Man charged with assaulting 79-year-old patient
Healthcare Security Weekly, September 26, 2005
Nurses and security officers at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence, RI, had to restrain Marc Gregoire, 33, as he tried to strangle a 79-year-old patient, according to the Providence Journal.
Police charged Gregoire with assault with intent to commit a felony murder after he allegedly straddled the elderly patient and choked him with both hands.
Earlier in the day security escorted Gregoire out of the hospital after causing a disturbance in the critical care unit.
Reports also surfaced that Gregoire visited the alleged victim and his wife at their nursing home several times in the previous week, though neither the husband nor the wife say they knew him.
Gregoire told hospital staff that he was a relative of the man the first time he entered the hospital and slipped past security the second time.
