JCAHO to establish Health IT panel
EHR Connection, September 26, 2005
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) announced Friday it established the Healthcare Information Technology Advisory Panel to improve patient safety and clinical processes as hospitals make headway with EHRs.
The group will convene for the first time next month, under the leadership of William Jessee, MD, president and chief executive officer of the Medical Group Management Association.
The panel includes representatives from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, American Health Information Management Association, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Veterans Health Administration, and Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.
A JCAHO workgroup will consider the panel's recommendations and spearhead future health IT initiatives.
