Commission includes EHR-lab spec standards in EHR certification criteria
EHR Connection, September 26, 2005
The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology has included EHR-lab interoperability and connectivity specification (ELINCS) standards in its proposal for certification criteria of EHRs. ELINCS provides an applicable lab-reporting specification that can be adopted as an industry standard, thereby eliminating the need for clinical laboratories and ambulatory EHR systems to define every interface that is implemented, says sponsor California HealthCare Foundation (CHCF).
Having standards in place for delivering electronic clinical laboratory results to clinicians in the office setting will help facilitate the adoption of EHRs, according to CHCF. EHR vendors, such as Allscripts, e-MDs, GE Medical Systems, Misys, NextGen, and WebMD, and lab-services providers, such as Ameripath, LabCorp, and Quest Diagnostics developed the ELINCS specification.
