FASA, AAASC rally for change to Medicare payment system
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, September 20, 2005
Both the Federated Ambulatory Surgery Association (FASA) and the American Association for Ambulatory Surgery Centers (AAASC) are involved in efforts aimed at establishing an improved Medicare ambulatory surgery center (ASC) payment system.
FASA is urging its members to write letters to their state representatives requesting support and cosponsorship of legislation set to be introduced by Representative Wally Herger (R-CA).
The legislation would establish a new ASC payment system and reform the mechanism used by CMS to determine the ASC Medicare-approved procedure list.

In Washington, DC, AAASC scheduled more than 70 congressional meetings for ASC leaders beginning September 19 in hopes of eventually persuading Congress to improve the Medicare ASC payment system.
More than sixty leaders from 19 states are taking part in training sessions, briefings, and role-playing with professional lobbyists in preparation for meetings with their elected representatives and senators.
