MGMA study: Practices adopting EHR at a slow rate
Physician Practice Advisor, September 21, 2005
A recent study by the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) found that only 14.1% of all medical group practices use EHR. The study, Assessing Adoption of Health Information Technology, surveyed 3,300 medical group practices. It found that rates of EHR adoption and intention of EHR adoption rose with the size of the practice:
- 12.5% of medical group practices with five or fewer full-time-equivalent physicians (FTE) have adopted an EHR
- groups with six to 10 FTE physicians reported a 15.2% adoption rate
- groups with 11-20 FTE physicians reported an 18.9% adoption rate
- groups of 20 or more FTE physicians had a 19.5% adoption rate.
