APTA aims to help Katrina victims
Rehab Private Practice Alert, September 7, 2005
APTA leadership and staff are looking at various options to assist members who have lost homes, businesses, or both in Hurricane Katrina, according to PT Bulletin Online.
Over the weekend, APTA's Board of Directors approved and sent a donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and also contacted the presidents and executive directors of the Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama chapters to ask for ideas and programs that may assist members.
APTA will establish a job clearinghouse so that potential employers may post job offerings to help physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in devastated areas find short- and long-term employment in other locations across the country.
APTA will also work with the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy and various chapter staff members to streamline the procedures for licensure requirements for those electing employment in another jurisdiction.
An APTA staff group will implement and follow through on these actions. If you have questions or ideas on other initiatives to help members, e-mail katrina@apta.org.
