Free EHR software delayed
Physician Practice Advisor, September 14, 2005
The release of VistA-Office-free electronic health record (EHR) software available from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)-has been delayed indefinitely, according to Government Health IT (GHIT).
GHIT reported that "Dr. Karen Bell, division director of the Quality Improvement Group at HHS' Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, told a conference audience that VistA-Office 'is undergoing a review right now by the secretary's office.. You can't download anything' now." Bell's comments came at the Health IT Summit in Washington, D.C.
VistA-Office was developed from the EHR system that the Department of Veterans Affairs uses. Its release date was pushed back from July and then from August.
