AMA working with licensing boards to assist displaced physicians
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, September 13, 2005
The American Medical Association (AMA) has announced that it is making its online service ePhysician Profiles available free of charge to several state licensing officials to help physicians displaced by Hurricane Katrina get licensed and credentialed more quickly.
The physician database is now available for free to officials in Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, and Texas.
"We're doing all we can on our end to provide state licensing authorities the data they need to license these physicians," AMA Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Michael D. Maves, MD, said in a statement posted on the AMA Web site.
"It's important that we try to cut through the bureaucracy and get these physicians back on the front lines caring for the many patients affected by the recent tragedies," Maves said.
