More imposter surveyors turn up in Seattle

Infection Control Monitor, August 5, 2005

A Seattle hospital has informed JCAHO that two imposters posing as surveyors attempted to gain access to their facility on July 12.

This is the latest in a series of similar incidents across the country, which has caught the attention of the federal Department of Homeland Security.

JCAHO urges all facilities to ask all surveyors to show their Joint Commission ID badge. If the surveyor shows up unannounced, he or she should also have a letter that is signed by Russell Massaro, MD, executive vice president of Accreditation Operations for the Joint Commission. The letter will be addressed to the head of the facility and will explain who the surveyor is and why he or she is there.
