PA nurse shot outside of hospital, ex-husband arrested
Healthcare Security Weekly, August 29, 2005
Police arrested a Berks County (PA) police chief last week in connection with the shooting of his ex-wife outside of Shamokin Area Community Hospital, reports the Daily Item in Sunbury, PA.
Richard C. Curran tried to cross the Canadian border after he allegedly shot and killed his ex-wife, Tina Curran, a nurse at the hospital, outside of the facility's loading dock.
Police say they have no motive for the shooting yet, though Mrs. Curran previously needed additional security at a past job because of child custody issues after their divorce.
After the shooting occurred, the hospital maintained normal operations and patient services, though the emergency department went into lock-down mode because of the possibility the shooter could return.
