Coding edits to apply to all rehab facilities
Rehab Private Practice Alert, August 17, 2005
Beginning January 1, 2006, physical therapist services provided in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation facilities (CORFs), rehabilitation agencies, and home health agencies will be subject to the same coding edits that currently apply to physical therapists in private practices and services provided in physician offices, according to PT Bulletin Online.
Citing "congressional concerns about rising utilization of therapy services" and pointing out that these facilities have had more than five years to adjust to the billing requirements of the Medicare physician fee schedule, CMS stated it is now appropriate to apply the correct coding initiative edits to all outpatient physical therapist services.
