Officer says age and sex discrimination hurt promotion

Healthcare Security Weekly, August 15, 2005

A security officer at Gateway Medical in Granite City, IL, filed a lawsuit against the hospital, claiming her security coordinator denied her a promotion due to her age and gender, according to The Madison County (IL) Record.

Mary E. Moyer, a hospital employee since 1977, says her boss passed her over in favor of a young man, though she had more experience, more qualifications, and had been working at the hospital for a longer period of time.

She is suing for lost income and wages, emotional pain and suffering, embarrassment, inconvenience, mental anguish, and loss of normal life, while seeking back pay, front pay, reinstatement to the appropriate job and work shift, attorney fees, and other litigation expenses.
