WA hospital boosts security after attacks
Healthcare Security Weekly, August 15, 2005
Six violent attacks in the past year at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA, have forced the hospital to bump up its security, according to King5 News in Seattle.
The hospital has set up a task force to evaluate the best course of action after the most recent incident last week resulted in injuries to several hospital workers after a married couple turned on the staff trying to breakup their argument.
Two months earlier, a male patient, who the hospital admitted for seizures, punched a nurse in the face. He also punched, kicked, and choked another nurse, and stabbed others with a pen.
St. Peter officials will meet with Olympia police to come up with recommendations, which might include a metal detector or a police dog presence, but they have already introduced around-the-clock security in the emergency room.
