Nation's long-term care residents include 795 sex offenders
LTC Liability Monitor, August 11, 2005
A recent study by the SNF watchdog group A Perfect Cause identified 795 registered sex offenders living in long-term care facilities across the country, reported the Associated Press (AP). The number is up from 380 offenders recorded in a similar survey in 2004.
Based in Oklahoma City, A Perfect Cause used online sex offender registries and matched addresses to listings in a national database of SNFs, assisted living facilities, and residential care homes. The study included 36 states, and did not chart states that did not have online registries or complete address data, the AP reported. Texas, with 124 registered offenders, has the most in long-term care facilities, with Illinois (121) and California (106) the next highest.
The president and founder of A Perfect Cause, Wes Bledsoe, told the AP that the increasing numbers are "very disturbing."
