CMS proposes Medicare cap
Rehab Private Practice Alert, August 10, 2005
CMS has called for a 4.3% cut in 2006 payments under the physician fee schedule due to increased spending for Medicare Part B services, according to PT Bulletin Online.
CMS cites physical therapy as one of the procedures seeing higher use recently, though APTA responded by stating that there were several justifiable reasons for the increase.
The proposed cuts would put an estimated cap of $1,750 for therapy for each beneficiary, which is scheduled to begin again on Jan. 1, 2006 if Congress doesn't step in. The cap number would also include chiropractors under the two-year demonstration to determine whether Medicare will cover chiropractic services as physical therapy.
